Camps?

Over/under on camps opening?
Any chance we can get money back ?

No way camps open unless we’re really in the clear per federal and state guidance. If not, and they still open, and someone gets sick there or is diagnosed, then they’ll be sued out if existence. Way, way too risky.

As for money back, it depends on how greedy they are.

One of our camps sent an email today saying they will refund if camp is canceled due the virus.

Which camp was that?

I’m guessing it could be a partial refund of funds have been spent towards setting up camps. It seems a little early to do any ordering in that way but it’s always possible.

When do you think we will hear about camps? May? I think I have to pay in full by April 30

I think that the camps will go on, especially starting in July.
We just have to wait and see, NOBODY knows.
If they don’t , it’s going to be hard to ask or her deposits or payments back; camp tuition pays for more than the camp itself. A lot of camps rely on this revenue entirely. Just think of what it takes to organize it (sleep aways ? head first ?)....
Most will probably pay their counselors since they will be out of jobs....

They will NOT pay the counselors

I don’t think camps will open this year. I withdrew our kids because the camp has an April 1st cutoff for withdrawing and if you cancel by that date you only lose the (small) deposit. I don’t trust anyone to issue refunds right now.

Camps will be open.

I think camps that have only accepted a deposit to date should hold off on charging the full amount until they have a better idea of whether camp will actually take place. Is anyone’s camp doing this? Ours was not and had a very clear and prominent no refund policy so we bailed.

Not very convincing. Based on what?

Too soon to tell so no sense taking about it. And if they’re cancelled I don’t expect a refund, as I don’t expect our school to refund our tuition we paid for the school year.

Much different. The school year was 3/4 over. Camp counselors will not be paid if there is no camp. They should hold off on charging any more than a deposit or commit to paying refunds if camps are canceled. But no, some of them will string people along then say sorry no refunds.
