Dcps teacher here- I don’t get Microsoft teams

Anonymous
Yes, I’ve emailed my principal & dcps. They are a bit busy right now/don’t know either.
What can you do on teams? Can you post videos? Can kids post videos? Can kids submit work, through photos ect?

It seems like Microsoft classroom can do a lot- but it doesn’t appear that DCPS has that subscription.

I am a DCPS teacher and haven't played around with Microsoft teams yet. You can, however, create a YouTube channel and make it private and share the link with students to watch videos. Or share videos through google drive if you prefer those.

A colleague just showed me around. Some cool features:

-chat functions for you to chat with the whole class, for them to chat with each other, and you can chat privately with each of them (they can't chat privately with each other--DCPS turned off that feature)
-video chat with individuals or start a class video conference
-upload Office docs/presentations to present to kids
-digital whiteboard to draw on the screen
-share your screen or an application/window on your browser
-record your live lesson to save for later

One thing I really like is that the class is always open, so kids can come in and interact anytime--not just at one set time like with a regular conference call.

Wow!!! This is encouraging!!!
How would I discover how to use these features?is there an online Microsoft teams PD that explains all this?

Most students have already used Office 365, so Teams is just another app. I am a teacher and participated in a webinar today and it seems great. Just play around with it and familiarize yourself with the functions.

What grade levels do you teach?
I teach ES. I’m positive my students are not using office 365

They actually did share out a video tutorial.

Can those video chat options leave it to the teacher to mute/unmute kids? Because after a week of social Zoom, it looks crucial.

Learning and setting up teams was all we did on Monday. We met remotely through teams and held meetings with our grades to plan.
