Is this common at DESA? The choir tracher is accused of sex acts with his 16 year old student. The boy told a friend what happened and they sent an anonymous email to the school.

| No not common. |
Define "common." This is the second teacher to be accused of sexual misconduct at DESA in the past two school years. https://thehoya.com/duke-ellington-school-arts-teacher-leave-sexual-assault-allegations/ |
Yes. After morning meeting all of the teachers get to pick a student to abuse. Seriously???!!! |
| Duke Ellington operates autonomously and is not a DCPS school. I’m confident that the DESA board is on the issue and suggest that spectators and non-members of the DESA community should MYOB. |
lol, it's in the WaPo and you are telling everyone to hush. bless your heart. |
The DESA community may not believe it, but it very much is a DCPS school. |
Context matters. As a DESA parent, my opinion is that two teachers in two school years is far too common. |
If it is not a DCPS school, then you should not get any DCPS funding. |

Unfortunately, accusations can be a petty way for disgruntled students to retaliate.
And no, this is not the norm at Ellington. False accusations of teachers , on the other hand, have increased at all public schools. |
+1 Have they released any plans to improve measures that'll decrease the likelihood of this happening? How are they screening/background checks on these people? |
DCPS or not, much of the DESA community doesn’t even reside in DC. More like PG! But DC taxpayers pay the freight. |
