Do children who try to leave the River School early for another private Pre-K or K get in?

Anonymous
Does anyone know how many children leave early each year? It was hard to get a straight answer from the school.

My DC goes to the River School and I just spoke with the director about this the other day. She said the children who leave in pre-k and K have no problems getting into any of the top schools. They all get into Sidwell, GDS, Maret.

We thought about leaving River after pre-school but have decided to leave our child in River through third grade because our child is thriving there. We have had such a positive experience with both the teachers and the administration we can't complain about the school.

Most mornings the director is in the lobby welcoming the students and if I have any problems she is right there to address it.

So, they all get in to Sidwell, GDS, Maret? Funny, I know LOTS of them who are at St. Patricks and at Beauvoir, too. I could NAME these kids... but of course I wont... all get in to Sidwell, GDS and Maret my a$%! What is with that???

Have you had a negative experience with getting your child into the school of your choice from River? If so, can you talk about in what ways the school failed to assist you.

I am laughing. Really laughing. LOL!!! I see why you thought that, but NO, my kids didn't go to River. The comment from River's head that for PK and K "they all go to Sidwell, GDS and Maret" is just ludicrous. River kids get into great schools, yes, but come 'on, Maret, Sidwell and GDS are 1.) not the only great schools in DC and 2.) not the only ones River schools kids move on to for PK and K, not by a long shot!!! It just plays into all the "Top 3" nonsense on these boards. Its a perfect example of how it gets fed.

I don't understand this comment. If these River School students were able to get into St. Pats and Beauvoir, that's pretty great. There are lots of people who would love to send their kids to either school. Are you implying that someone wouldn't go to St. Pats or Beauvoir if they were accepted at Sidwell, GDS, or Maret? If so, that's a pretty short-sighted assumption.

Seriously. Some of these posts are pure BS meant to fuel hype. It's a school for children who have cochlear implants and for typically developing children to learn along side them. They have a faculty with many initials behind them. But feeder school to Maret, Beauvoir, Sidwell - not.

Read the previous page. PP is just saying that it's ludicrous that either the director would say or someone is quoting as her saying all the kids who left went to Beauvoir, Maret, and Sidwell.

That is fine, but where do they usually go?

Honestly, they go to lots of schools, just like everwhere else. Its a great school and some stay through 3rd grade and go on to Holton and Landon, etc... of course its a newer school so those numbers re esy to get. There are lots of ex-River school students at St Patricks who left after a year or two at River and at Beauvoir nd I m sure at GDS and other schools. My kids did not go there but I know lots of River school familes past and present. We looked at it and thought it was very nice and it hs some very nice families.

St. Pat's and Beauvoir are not in the same category. Both are wonderful schools but St. Pat's is a neighborhood school and Beauvoir is a nationally acclaimed top school and top school in DC. I had heard about it before ever moving to this area.

My kids went to River and left at Kindergarten. We loved it as a preschool, but did not get any assistance in applying out for K. They have no incentive to help you leave the school and want families to stay through 3rd. We got into the school that we wanted, but I think that is because of connections that we had at the school.

Oh please. They're both private schools, very good and very expensive. The difference between them is negligible. If you want to get the vapors over someone discussing these in the same category then take it to the private schools forum where you can vent and virtually gnaw the faces off of everyone who disagrees with you. But don't feed into the hype here, okay? It's absurd. You sound like a college freshman bitter that someone equated the KKGs and the Tri-Delts... when the rest of the school just doesn't care.

It's funny how you seem to have VERY strong opinions about these schools (i.e. they are all the same), yet you get ruffled when others have opinions that differ from yours.
