| How long do you think it will last? |
| Six weeks. I’m dreading the economic fallout. |
| Lockdown over here in San Jose. Me and my toddler are both high-risk. My husband works for a large tech company and has been told mandatory work from home will continue for at least 2-3 months. |
| I’m in the east bay. DH and kids are off school and work for a month, and now I get to join them. |
OP here. My DH is also at a large firm but they have only been told through mid-April, for now. 2-3 months on lock-down with two littles. Good lord! |
| On lockdown but work in a professional field that has been exempted. I think it will last 6-8 weeks. |
| Doing it here. We escaped to Tahoe for the shelter in place. Kids are doing online school and DH and I are working remote. |

Now that we've shifted to not even trying to figure out mild/moderate cases in the community, I'm afraid it's going to be a long time. Easily into the summer.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/21/coronavirus-testing-strategyshift/ If we had locked down earlier and continued testing, we might have been able to get away with contact tracing and quarantining known cases as well as the vulnerable. Given the above, we are at the mercy of whenever we severely ramp up production of PPE. |
| Did you have warning signs before the lockdown came? |
|
Yes. We are in the city. So far, so good. I’ve ordered Instacart today for the first time in a week and was surprised that I got some things in stock (chicken breasts! Deli ham! Apples!).
We are originally from the Midwest and feeling grateful that the weather is so nice here. We are in an apartment with no outdoor space, so outdoor walks and walking the beach has kept us (and our kids) sane....so far! |
Sort of. Rumors about a day before. Friends who had people who work for the city. |
We’ve had there here since Thursday. |
|
It's obviously longer than 6 weeks at this point since it has already been 6 weeks. They are now talking a minimum of double that.
But schools are supposed to open in July, so they will open early and the SIP has to end before then. |

I'm in downtown SF. Working from home. Hopefully for months and months.
I don't ever want to leave my apartment. Not really. But kind of. |
That's how I felt and then I donned a mask, wore glasses, put lysol wipes in my hands and left the house (to go grocery shopping) and then I felt so free that I stayed wandering the store for an hour longer than I needed. When I didn't get sick after 2 weeks passed, I realized that it is more the fear of leaving than leaving itself. LEAVE YOUR HOME! |
