Question about Cervical Mucous

Anonymous
A little background: before I had my DD (now 17 months) I was charting BBTs and checking my cervical mucous. It was pretty much exactly how the book TCOYF describes - I would progress from sticky --> lotiony --> eggwhite and all was very apparent everytime I went to the bathroom which stage I was in.

Fast forward to now: I am TTC #2 and have had 2 unsuccessful cycles thus far. The issue is - I no longer see the sticky phase and only saw lotiony once and eggwhite is minimal - (TMI) but only when I have a BM do I notice the eggwhite, whereas before my DD it was enough to just come out on it's own. (I apologize if that sounded gross).

I do know that I am ovulating based on OPKs and temps (as well as the eggwhite that I am able to get).

I have heard of using Robutussin to increase cervical muoucs - do you think this would help? Green tea? Other suggestions?

I don't know if this is normal to be decreased now - I probably should drink more water - not sure if that would help. I am 30 years old if that means anything.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I'm no expert, but I noticed the same thing when we started TTC #2--used to have lots of CM, now very little. I started taking Mucinex to increase CM (same effect as Robitussin but without the nasty taste; make sure you get the one that is an expectorant only). I also started using Pre-Seed (sperm-friendly lube). Unfortunately, it's been several months and still no BFP, but now I don't think the problem is lack of CM.

At 30, I wouldn't think that your age would be causing the change. I would try the Robitussin (as pp said, the expectorant only), Pre-seed, and more fluids (grapefruit juice is good). Give it another 3 months and then check in with your doctor. (I'm not sure about the green tea - I does have some caffeine, and for some women can effect their cycles (although I know other women thinks it helps).)

FWIW, the two times that I've gotten pregnant were months when I had the least amount of CM - I had been so convinced in other months that I would get pregnant because of my great CM, and surprised when I did get pregnant because of my poor CF. So, at least for me, I don't put much stock in it.
