Infertility Support and Discussion
My husband and I doing IVF due to male factor. Our RE is recommending we have frozen sperm available because we had a problem on the day of egg retrieval obtaining sperm. We decided to freeze the eggs that day since they could not be fertilized. We plan on doing a fresh IVF cycle using his frozen sperm if we can't obtain fresh. Any success stories using frozen sperm? Thanks in advance.

I have 2 kids created from IUIs using frozen sperm.
Good luck! |
My husband was diagnosed with severe male factor infertility. We froze several vials of sperm months before IVF#1. For IVF #1, we ended up using fresh--BFN. For IVF#2, we used the previously frozen sperm (there was no sperm in his fresh sample that day, and the sperm retrieved from a biopsy by the urologist was all abnormal). That is the cycle we got our DD from. If you have the chance, I would suggest freezing some sperm for future cycles. It is a good insurance policy! Also, research shows there is no difference b/w fresh and frozen. Good luck, OP.
Severe male factor issues for us too. DH had one procedure and froze sperm from that. IVF #1 = BFN, FET #1 = twins; m/c @ 9 weeks; IVF #2 = DD! We hope to do another FET, but still have frozen sperm available if we need to do another IVF round in the future.

A good friend of mine now has 2 IVF children (under age 3 1/2) from sperm that was frozen when her husband had lymphoma 10 years ago.

OP 17:50 Thank you so much for your success stories. DH was tested before we started treatment and results would have been ok to freeze but didn't think we needed to until we had no sperm at IVF retrieval. We have been doing repeat tests to hopefully get enough to freeze for future cycles but no luck yet. His next test is this Friday. We can't move forward until we have better results. We are both 38 and hope to start our family soon. Your stories give me hope. Thank you for sharing!

OP--my husband ended up on Clomid for 4-6 months and took vitamins. Can't really speak to the vitamins, but the clomid definitely improved his count (from zero to a few vials to freeze). I know its not for everybody, but it may provide an option. Keep us posted...I know how stressful the no sperm situation can be!
