gap maternity at Fair Oaks??

Anonymous
Thinking of driving out there today to get some new maternity clothes
Is it worth it? Do they have a good selection?
It is NOT close to my house so I don't want to make the trek there if they
don't have much.

Thanks!

It has been 2 years since I bought maternity clothes, but I honestly think that Motherhood Maternity (at Fair Oaks as well) has just as nice 'in style' clothes. I bought from both places, but in the end, most of the clothes I ended up wearing were from Motherhood Maternity. Personally, I don't think the Gap has a great selection for Maternity.

Also, some Old Navy stores have maternity clothes.

I was just there today, actually, and they have a pretty nice selection. It's in the back of babyGap, so it's not huge, but they have a nice range of jeans, tops, dresses. They don't carry the extra small or extra large sizes (0, 1, 16, 18) in store. If there's something in particular you're looking for, you can give them a call first and see if they have it.

It might be worthwhile if you don't know what size to buy, otherwise, I'd order from their website. Much bigger selection and you can also look at and order from Old Navy at the same time.

That gap maternity saved my life! I was always able to find great sales...i mean 5 or six items for under $100 and the fitting rooms are nice and big. There also is one at Columbia mall inside gap kids as well, but that has much smaller selection. I too live far from Fair oaks, but it was worth it. Personally i find the Mimi maternity/pea in a pod places to be expensive.

I went there when I was about 5 months along and everything was too big. I reccommend Motherhood Maternity (there's one in pentagon city). Their clothes are much cheaper and there is more selection.

It is really small, the size of a large walk in closet. Their selection isn't great, but they do have the basics. If you are looking to browse and pull together outfits, this isn't the place. I'd go to either Motherhood Maternity or Pea in the Pod. Next International also has a good online selection.

wow I'd like to see your closets!

For the $, I found the GAP to be the best. Motherhood stuff falls apart easily and Pea in the pod is expensive. I shopped online for GAP especally during sales, which were great. They used to have free shipping for returns also, which was perfect. If you are ave height, it's worth the trip out there. If not you should just order online - they dont carry petite or tall sizes in the store.

I was there this weekend - they have a lot of tops and pants for both casual and dress. They have nice dresses as well which I have gotten a lot of use out of during this pregnancy. I like that they have the nursing camisoles and bras there as well. I think it is worth the trip once or twice during the pregnancy.

I agree with PP that motherhood is too cheap with clothes that fall apart after you wear them once and pea in the pod is way to expensive for me to justify paying for clothes that I'll wear temporarily.

I really liked the gap maternity clothing. The selection wasn't very large but the styles were nice and the fabrics were like what you find at a normal gap store. I also like the fair oaks mall because it had the Motherhood store and a maternity section in the Macy's. The Macy's sells the motherhood brand and it has a much better return policy than the Motherhood store. They also had some great sale items when I was there 2 weeks ago.

I think it's worth at least one trip. Like the PPs, I found the quality to far exceed Motherhood Maternity. I'm 7 months now, and my MM clothes are pilling and look worn while my Gap clothes are in good shape. Plus, I'm a petite (ratio-wise), so it was really helpful to try on clothes in person to avoid tops with too-low necklines, etc. Know that mail-ordered clothing requires paying for shipping (both initially and on any returns).

For me, Pea in the Pod is just outrageously expensive, although I was able to find a couple pairs of pants on sale for $70 that have done me well.

definitely go! i went there today, and they have cute v-neck swetters for $12. Also some of their dress pants were on sale too. V. cute stuff, cute wrap dresses, some "transitional" clothes too.
Pea in the pod had a sale last weekend, but still so very expensive, very beautiful, but v. pricey. and their return policy sucks - exchanges or store credit only...

Is montgomery mall in bethesda that much further? They have an old navy with an extensive maternity selection, and you can always visit Macy's while you're there- they have a small but often well-stocked maternity section (much of their stuff is motherhood maternity). Montgomery mall also has a motherhood maternity store, though most of my stuff is from old navy.
As a second-time mom one thing I didn't realize is how long after I delivered that I'd be wearing the clothes. I wore many of the maternity pants through almost 6 months PP - I had to go out and buy 'big' clothes while I was losing the baby weight. Keep that in consideration!
