When to plant canna bulbs?

Given the early’ish Spring, when should I look at planting Canna bulbs? I’m in Montgomery County. Thanks!

I never plant them before late April. Cannas detest the cold.

I agree, I would have said May 1 but you can put them in pots in the sun a few weeks earlier so you can bring them in if there’s a cold night.

Here is a handy website for looking at soil temperatures. If you put in dates from last year, you can see the averages.
http://www.greencastonline.com/tools/soil-temperature. Most years I assume “last frost” is April 15 if the 10 day outlook looks good. But the soil won’t be warm enough then for Cannas I don’t think.
