Anyone Trying to Decide Between Green Acres and GDS?

Anonymous
Just curious what opinions people have between the two schools. I appreciate that GDS has a better academic reputation. I have the sense that Green Acres is perhaps warmer/more nurturing. I figure my bright child will learn what she needs to learn wherever she goes. I most want her to be somewhere where she LOVES school and her self-esteem remains in tact. My child appears to be a pretty mainstream learner so I am a bit concerned that Green Acres is too unstructured. Thoughts anyone??

also trying to decide between GDS and Green Acres for the same reasons you mentioned. I dont' know what will tip the scale for us. will attend both morning events for more info, and am talking to as many parents as I can. Maybe we'll see the light soon! good luck to you.

If your kids got into GDS, you probably don't have to worry too much later on. If I were in your shoes I would send my kids to Green Acres and apply out for GDS or similar in the later grades. My two cents.

I do know of some kids that HATED GDS, but have not heard the same about GA.

Any specifics on why they hated it? Did they move on to another school?

They moved to Field. Snob factor was mentioned.

Does anyone know if you turn down GDS and then reapply after going to GA, that they wouldn't accept you as you had "turned them down already?"
I've heard that schools WILL hold that against you, even if it's eight years later. Would we lose chance at GDS for High School that way??
thanks for insight.

Would you mind telling us more about the rumor on schools' grudge against applicants who turned them down in the past? How common is that attitude? Does anyone know whether this is true also for siblings' applications?

That's the craziest rumor about GDS I've ever heard. For one, they have different admission directors for different grade groups. Two, they have better things to do than have a gripe with you because you don't accept. Three, they are not so crazy to settle the gripe with you 8 or 10 years later.

Their car pool lane IS long, but this rumor is not true.

We chose Green Acres over GDS several years ago. We thought GDS was too academic and not playful enough in the lower and middle grades, and we know of at least a few families in the same position whose kids later got into GDS in ninth grade, no problem. In the end, we figured we were choosing an elementary school for our five-year-old, not a high school.
