Cakelove

I've had their cupcakes and was not impressed at all, but are the cakes better? I thought I tried one many years ago and it was pretty good, but it may have been from somewhere else. I need to get a small cake (for 6 people) for a 40th wedding anniversary and I want it to be fun, special, and different. Any thoughts on Cakelove? Or other places near upper NW DC?

Frosting is opening in Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights soon.

Cheesecake Factory cakes to go are amazing....love the Black Forest. They have more than just cheescake.

I was all into Cakelove back before all of the other way superior bakeries opened up. They are now bottom of the totem pole though, imho.

I LOVE baked and wired and georgetown cupcakes. Also second the Cheesecake Factory. And sticky fingers does amazingly delicious vegan cakes.

Skip the cake and do G-town Cupcakes. Cakelove sucks! Their cupcakes are so dry and stale.

G-town Cupcakes are so overrated.

21:32 here and I love Georgetown Cupcakes. I did have a so-so experience with cupcakes I ordered for Christmas, but I chalked this up to having to bake so many cupcakes that some of them were not baked the day I picked them up. Any other time I've stopped in or ordered the cupcakes have been moist, fresh and yummy! 21:33, what cupcakes DO you like?

Cakelove is overrated. I order special occasion cakes from Furins in Georgetown. They are made to order and are delicious. The coconut is my favorite.

Furin's coconut cake is heaven on earth.

I've tried Cakelove, Red Velvet, Hello Cupcake, and Lavender Moon. Lavender Moon blows all the rest away, IMO. A cupcake is a cupcake, so it's not like the others aren't enjoyable - they are - but Lavender Moon? Yummmm!

Where is this Laveder Moon? Having a craving.

Agree that Cakelove is overrated. The owner however is a hottie!

It's in Old Town Alexandria - here you go - enjoy! http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/restaurants/lavender-moon-cupcakery,1153579.html

It's a sad commentary that a cupcake store could even be under or over-rated. How can this town be so preoccupied with a thing like a cupcake store? It's a damn cupcake. C'mon!

The thing about Cakelove cakes is that you have to let them "thaw" for a couple of hours before they taste good. We love their vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream frosting. I really like Georgetown Cupcakes too. Furin's cakes are so-so, EXCEPT for the coconut cake, which is the BEST I've had.

I made the mistake of paying for a cupcake at Fancy Cakes by Leslie. Blech. I think the bakers are more into the design than the taste of the cakes.

OP here. Just wanted to people for the Furin's coconut cake recommendations, it got rave reviews!
