Repairing/restoring antique clock?

Anonymous
I just inherited an almost-100 year old grandfather clock. I have it set up and running, but in needs to be retored (the clock mechanism). The one clock shop I visited has a wait list of about 1.5 years for the major restoration that my clock needs. Can anyone recommend an excellent clock restorer. (Conversely, is there a clock repair person you would not recommend to restore a clock?) I'm in NoVA, but anywhere in the wider metropolitan area would be great.

TIA

I had a 100+ year old school house clock that was my grandmother's cleaned at the Clock Shop in Vienna, VA. It was just the way they liked it - absolutely filthy which told them no one had tried "fixing" it. Once cleaned, it ran perfectly.

There is a clock shop on Lee Highway near the Safeway in Cherrydale. I don't know the name, though.

Email Gene Weingarten at the Washington Post. (He's their humor columnist, if you don't know him.) He's obsessed with old clocks, fixes them himself, knows all the other restorers in the area, and is kind of a snob about it. He would be thrilled to hear from you.

OP here... thanks for the reminder about Gene and his love of clocks... I had forgotten that about him!
