COVID-19 and summer camp planning

Anybody hesitating on booking summer camp because of the new coronavirus? I'm reluctant to put down any $$ that I might not get back.

Yep. For sure. Luckily I have a flexible work situation so I feel for everyone that doesn’t.

We booked camps in February. Most (not all) of them are still refundable at this stage ... but even with a flexible job I need childcare, so not sure I would postpone/cancel.

Hopefully this pandemic will burn out in the summer heat, like flu does.

we booked one three week camp early for both kids - it's our anchor camp, and we fill in around it. Booked one week at a speciality camp for one kid also early. So we're less than half booked for the summer, which isn't unusual for us and the camps the kids attend. But one of my kids wants sleep away and I'm holding off on that.

Yes. I’ve booked nothing.

Registration for our usual camp starts next week. It's generally nonrefundable so yes, I am hesitant to register unless they make it clear there would be an exception for cancellation due to covid-19.

I don’t think the virus will still be around in June.

Amen to that! i am hoping it goes away with the heat. - i am booked for 8 weeks some of those still refundable/cancelable until May.

If it’s still so bad in June that camp is not doable and I’m not working, the money I spent on camp is going to be the least of my concerns.

I booked back in January -- two kids for the whole summer. I really hope things are different by June. I don't know if I could cancel and I don't really want to cancel. I wonder if they will have to refund if the camps are shut down. I'm likely to send my kids if the camps are open.

I’ve booked local camps but DS really wanted to do a short sleep-away camp in another state and I‘m not sure what to do about that one.

Yes for sure. But I SAHM so it’s more of a nice to have, not a need.

I wonder if our kids will have school in June. I don’t care about my elementary student but I’d like my middle schooler’s year to be extended if he’s off for a prolonged time as it’s actually important that he learns the material (algebra, foreign language)
