Would you rather:
1. Give each of your kids a $1m inheritance 2. Give each of your kids a $400-500k inheritance and send them to private PK-12 Assume college tuition and retirement are taken care of. |
| My daughter’s private school education has been the greatest gift I could give her. I would pick option 2. |
|
1, no question. My kids are thriving in the public magnets. |
| My older kids are grown and on their own. They did well in their public schools and then their colleges have lead to good, solid careers. I think they'd appreciate now if they had the inheritance rather than private school. My youngest will be doing private school route and I am kinda regretting the money spent - even though DC child thriving. |
| Depends on the child and situation. I think mine would do better in a private. But, for another child, public is better. Mine likes public so its a non-issue but given the choice, private. |
| Private, no hesitation. |
| On what planet is a good idea to give any kid a $1 million inheritance? Way to destroy their ambition, drive and motivation to do anything for themselves. |
+1 this is completely child dependant. I have one of each. You can always try it out and switch though. |
Most kids would be full adults by the time that happens. Good for the parents for doing it. |
Because its a lot and still not much. With that capital they can start a business or get a good career going. |

We are trying to leave to each of our own kid real estate in the value of 1mil each. We aren’t there yet, but kids are still 6 and under. We are also doing private school for now, but that’s only because employer pays for half tuition.
My parents gave me real estate and I feel it’s my duty to do the same for my kids instead of using the money for trips, meals, clothes, etc. |
we have 3 kids and DH and I would retire in a 1 bedroom and leave very thing to the kids and their families |
If your employer is paying half, I"d absolutely do private school. |
| Of course #1 |
