Where are all my brave metro riders?

Anonymous
I have a ton of money on my card but an over 35
minute ride on metro so I’m considering driving. What’s everyone doing this week? Business as usual? Any special things you are doing to prepare to take public transportation?

Metro rider here, no change in plans

Not changing. I do wonder whether the roads will be more crowded with people driving or less crowded with so many people staying home.

You disinfect your hands as soon as you get off the metro, and don’t you dare touch your face before that.

Does metro have dispensers out now? I only ask because although I carry hand sanitizer with me at all times, I need to reach into my bag to get it, spreading more germs.

Do you have a small outside pocket on your bag? When I have a cold I make that a ?dirty? pocket that I touch when I can?t wash my hands (tissues, cough drops, sanitizer) and I don?t touch it (so different tissues and drops inside my bag) when my hands are clean. I don?t know if it helps stop the spread of germs, but it makes me feel better about it.

I saw someone wearing a pair of those hospital, latex gloves while riding. Not a bad idea if you ask me. But I don't know where to get them.

Some CVS and other drug stores still have them, but you can also use a tissue between your hand.

Gloves are a great idea. I?d tell you to get a key chain or clip on sanitizer, but those are long gone. If they ever come back in stock, they would let you sanitizer without putting your hands in your bag

I am using capitol bikeshare to get from union station to farragut West. That may or may not be feasible for other commutes, but apparently I am not the only one. Bike docking stations are full by the time I arrive, suggesting that others are doing the same.

No change in plans, just being extra cognizant of not touching anything and washing hands asap after.

Biking as usual.
