Neg HPT but still pregnant?

Anonymous
Anyone had a negative hpt after your period was due but still ended up being pregnant? Period is 3 days late and I am breaking out all around the mouth, which was what I looked like all of first trimester of my first pregnancy. Took an hpt this morning but it said no, and it was the digital kind too.

Then again, this is my first cycle after the first period post-m/c, so maybe my body is still completely messed up.

I was just really really hoping...

A couple of things

How do you know your period is 3 days late? Are you sure of when you ovulated, or are you just going by the number of days since your last period? If you know you ovulated and are past 3 days past your luteal phase and your test is negative, it's probably an accurate negative. But if you're just going by the calendar, it's possible you ovulated later and so your period is not really late yet and you're just testing too early.

Also, digital HPTs are not the most sensitive; they're just the easiest to read. First Response Early Result is the most sensitive test on the market. Sometimes you can get a positive on one of those that a digital wouldn't pick up yet.

Yes- I bet your are PREGS! yay! SAME thing happened to me, exactly! first cycle after the first period post m/c...
it might have shifted your ovulation day, so perhaps you ovulated much later than normal. For us, it took almost a week for the HPT to show +. Then, when we went in for our 8 week initial appt, the sono showed the baby looked more like 6 weeks. We were pretty worried and thought it HAD to be 8 weeks, based on LMP and assuming around day 14 ovulation. Well, we have a gorgeous 20 month old daughter now- and I assume I just ovulated more like day 20+.

Goodluck to you!

OP: thanks for that story. It's nice to know sometimes the story has a happy ending. We did the deed a few times between day 20-25 too, so maybe we caught it if it ends up that I ovulated late.

Did you feel like you had any pregnancy symptoms prior to getting that +?
