I am a little over 14 weeks pregnant, and for the past three weeks I have getting HORRIBLE headaches on and off. I have never had a migraine before, but I have to think this is what it feels like- sensitivity to light, noise, etc. The only way I can get by is to lie down and sleep until it goes away. Tylenol doesn't do anything.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for remedies that have worked? |
How's your blood pressure? Have you had it checked out lately? I might want to call the doc to be sure... |
Yes! I can help you! The same thing happened to me. Something that worked immediately was the neti pot (you can also use alternative nasal rinsing methods). I'd been skeptical about it, but the day after I did it for the first time, the headache disappeared.
good luck! |
Massages and acupuncture is supposed to be good too. |
I had awful headaches too! I'm not sure about your situation, but I was mostly vegetarian at first. I increased my protein consumption a lot (to 90-100g/day), and my headaches went away. |
I also had headaches throughout my first pregnancy. However, I have a history of migraines and allergies pre-pregancy. For the current pregnancy, I loaded up on allergy meds (Class B) and nasal sprays. As a backup, my doc prescribed Tylenol with Codeine. It is apparently safer than Motrin and works WAYYY better than regular Tylenol. Regular pregnancy massages also helped me tremendously. I hope you feel better soon! |
I started getting headaches around week 12 and I am now in my 27 weeks and they are beginning to subside. Get your blood pressure checked. If that is normal than it is likely due to the increase blood flow and/or sinus pressure. I would come home from work with splitting headaches and had to apply steaming hot rags around my sinus pressure area in my face. That usually provided some relief. I second the neti pot, but the neti pot only provided immediate relief. You can get them at CVS or whole foods. Invest it a GOOD humidifier. I got one at BB&B for $100. Get the kind where you actually see steam coming out. Run it all night. The humidifier has done wonders for me! |
when I get one of those, if it is in the morning or before say 3pm, I try to take something with caffeine in it. Excedrin migraine is just excedrin with caffeine in it.
Usually though since it's horomonal, regular tylenol or any other plain headache medicine didn't help. Also, even though I'm usually nauseated when this happens, I try to eat something. An empty stomach seems to make mine worse. I try and just take a warm bath and then go to bed early. It usually subsides by morning. |
I had them from week 7 until week 28. They SUCKED. THe only thing that worked was laying down and cold compresses. im convinced it was my sinuses too because i would wake up with bloody or stuffy noses and always had to clear my throat a billion times in the morning. GOod luck |
and keep hydrated--your body needs more water right now. |
I don't like to drink much since I'm pregnant, but sometimes a Coke or a cup of coffee (for the caffeine) HELPS TREMENDOUSLY when Tylenol doesn't.
Feel better. |
I also found that Tylenol was useless. My husband perfected the "headache rub" which was a combination back, neck, head (skull and temples) rub - which he had to do nightly for the first trimester until the hormones shifted in the second trimester. |
