For years I have gotten many plants from DeBaggio Herbs, but they have just announced that they are closing down. Any suggestions for sources for good herbs and unusual plants, especially rosemary, lavender, and milkweed? I'd prefer to avoid mail-order but am open to going to special garden-show sale type events.
Merrifield, Homestead Gardens. There used to be a plant and herb festival in Baltimore around Memorial Day. It’s been years since I went but they had a great variety of vendors.
I don’t know what specifically you mean by “good” herbs and unusual rosemary. There is a plant sale at the Monastery in NE. Mail order also works well for unusual things.
If you decide to do mail order I love Sandy Mush herb nursery. Goodwin Creek has a lot of lavender varieties. Companion Plants has milkweed. And Cross Country nurseries has an amazing selection of peppers, tomatoes and eggplant.
The Farmers Market in Old Town has a great herb/plant vendor.

American Plant has all this tho pricey. Seasons has nice things but if you were shopping at DeBaggio probably far away from you. What you're looking for isn't very unusual now so should be widely available. I do agree on the mail order places PP listed above. White Flower Farm, Waysides, even the cheaper Bluestone are not best sources if you're looking for truly unusual varieties but they do have nice catalogs.
