Anyone redshirt after free DC PK-4?

Has anyone redshirted their child after a year of free DC PK-4? If so how did it go for your child? Was it disruptive? Where did you send them for the year before K (would especially be interested in good NW DC options for private PK-4 with aftercare). Did you end up wishing you had just done two years of private PK instead? Our kid barely makes the cutoff and is a bit immature so teachers are recommending delaying K.

My child did PK3/4 in DC and had to repeat PK in MD when we moved there because of Sept bday. (We tried for early entrance K in MCPS with no luck.) Kid has done fine both as youngest in DCPS and oldest in MCPS.

I certainly would not try to game the system for an extra year of PK. Hold child back only if it developmentally appropriate, which you should be able to do if the current school agrees is the case. Then your kid would simply repeat PK in your current school.
