Nobody is noticing my weightloss?

Anonymous
I’ve lost 30lb total, 20lb since Christmas. I really haven’t seen many of my friends/family since the holidays, but saw many within the past two weekends. Not one person noticed anything, or at least they didn’t mention it. When I look at myself, I definitely see a change in my face, and all over my body. I’m down two pant sizes and a shirt size. How many pounds does it take until people notice? I’m not trying to be vain, I swear, but I was really hoping someone would notice my effort!

OMG. We mention your weight, you get pissed. We don't mention your weight, you get pissed.

I guess you make a good point. Though I don’t think you can ever offend a person by telling them they look like they’ve lost weight when you know they used to be heavier.

People don't comment for a variety of reasons. If you have been on DCUM for a while you will see that it can range from weight loss from negative circumstances like illnesses to hurt feelings.

It depends where you were starting from. You also need to dress so that people notice it more. Wear a belt at your natural waist, maybe? Show some leg in skirts?

Many people don’t mention weight loss because it can be a sign of a health or personal problem. It happened to me. I complimented a colleague because she lost weight and the answer was: “Not for a good reason.”

I didn’t ask what was the reason, but I was happy to see that she is chubby again.

Oh, OP, I saw you today and you looked amazing!

I think that many people don’t want to say anything for fear of offending you about how you used to look. You have you been around outspoken people? A family member who doesn’t sugar coat things?

Going from a size 6 to 2 would be easily noticeable. 18 to 14 maybe not as much.

The subtext of "You've lost weight, you look great" is " you used to be fat and ugly." No one wants to say that.

NP +1

And even worse when you still have a way to go. Then you'll feel worse because you know that a) people used to think you looked awful, and b) people are still probably noticing the extra pounds and will be watching to see whether you lose the remaining pounds.

I'm sure you do have supporters though, they just don't want to say anything.

As other mentioned, it depends are how heavy to start & how tall you are.

Also, if you are wearing the same clothes it is less noticable.

Have you gained/loss weight before? If they did notice may be unsure if they should bring it up.

Congrats on the weightloss.

People lose weight because they try. They lose weight when they get cancer. They lose weight when they have family problems. They lose weight when their kids are sick. Losing weight is t always a happy occasion. First PP is right. You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
