Thinking ahead for my child's birthday party and wanted to know how others have done it. TIA |
If you want to reserve a picnic table, yes. Otherwise, it's first-come-first-serve, and if someone with a permit shows up, you have to move. |
It's a risk. You can plan to have it there and hope no one makes a reservation (watch the reservation calendar like a hawk), but if there's no reservation you can just use it |
You might not need to, but I'd definitely recommend it, and it doesn't cost much. We have birthday parties every year at DPR sites, and it's nice to be able to show your permit when a place get overcrowded. |
New poster here
Have you ever arrived at the park and found someone in the spot you had a permit for? Did they give you a hard time about leaving? |
That's what 311 is for. |
Then do you show up in a viral video for being That Lady who Calls Someone? I can imagine picnickers not being happy to be budged out by a permit... |
I was having a family picnic when a permitted group came to set up their party. They were very nice and even let us keep a table of to the side that was rightfully theirs, though we finished up before their party started. They also said our kids could join them for cake! We declined, but that was sweet.
How do you watch the calendar? I've tried to call a certain rec center to find out about bookings, but was always redirected to the central office. Are calendar posted somewhere? |
I tried to get a permit for our party and basically it wasn’t possible. You couldn’t reserve the tables and just had to hope they were open when you got there. |
