Ivy coming back up

Anonymous
It was removed from trees and beneath the, but I see new growth.

Would a light blocking tarp help?

Pulling by hand?

Other methods?

It’s the devil. Keep pulling until you die. Then it will grow around your body.

I’m doomed.

Other suggestions?

How big is the space? How many times did you pull by hand? After a few rounds of pulling by hand, I used the evil weed killer spray directly on just the new growth and it was gone. DCUM will hate me for that. And it's all I have ever used it on, but desperate times....

But it is growing in the tree roots.

I try to be extremely green in my yard but that’s a good use of weed killer. Infrequently and on an invasive plant. That’s nothing like spraying it all over your lawn every year or zapping dandelions all day.

That’s my concern.

I feel like if I need to resort to weed killer, I will dabbing the cut root of the ivy with a cotton swab dipped in weed killer.

herbicides like roundup, which has been deemed safe by the government... only work son the the chlorophyll producing bodies of the plant. so you want to caot the leaves of the ivy, it won't hurt the roots of the trees. you could spray roundup on the trunks of trees and it won't hurt them.

there some herbicides that are systemic, which also sterilize the soil and they could hurt roots of trees

I did not have success with any spray or painting of roots.

Also, if you are going to go this route, I would buy some sort of glyphosate based concentrate, check the active ingredient, you want the highest percentage you can find. highest ive seen is 46%, that way you can mix it to the higher rates, and add some surfactant like dish soap to the mix to help the chemical penetrate the cuticle of the plant.
