DPR camp question

Anonymous
This was our first time registering for DPR camp and we had 50% success--i.e. managed to register my younger child for three sessions but failed to get older child into anything. My kids are in the same age group, and my hope was that both kids being together would help the younger one do better (he is shy and has trouble adjusting to new environments). Now that I only got one kid into the camp, I'm wondering if it's possible to change my registration and send the older child instead. Again, they're in the same age group so theoretically it shouldn't make a difference, but of course I don't know how strict DPR is about these things.

Does anyone happen to know? I will reach out to DPR directly but they aren't taking any camp-related phone calls today.

I bet you would be able to switch the two kids. I would just sign up for a waitlist spot as well; I am guessing some people do drop out. (I requested a refund for a couple of weeks last summer for example because we had conflicting plans).

I actually would be surprised if they let you swap a kid out. I imagine the spot would have to go to whoever is first on the waitlist. I would add your older kid to the waitlist and see what happens in the next few weeks.

I wouldn’t try to do it officially. I find that the counselors are a lot more understanding on these scenarios. If you do try to do it officially, just call them (wait until the craziness from this week dies down). Call them next week and tell them you clocked on wrong kid. I doubt you’ll have an issue.

I think they'll let you do it, because there's no problem with "fairness" on this. You legit have one child already registered, and you want to swap them out for another child in your same family in the same age group. Why would they have a problem with that?

The harder thing to do or the thing that raises fairness questions would be if you tried to add your 2nd kid without taking out your 1st kid.

Call them next week (or even late afternoon this week, once the noon chaos dies down) and ask them how you can do that. If that doesn't work, I agree with a PP, just show up with the other kid and explain at the camp itself. But best to do it officially ahead of time.

And yes, add the other kid to the waitlist now.
