I got the sense after attending their open house that it is difficult to get in here regardless of the age of your child. Also, that they consider your willingness to fundraise for them to be a significant factor in their admissions determination. Are both of my impressions correct? |
Yup |
Nope. Older kids are always easier with all of the lottery churn. Like ANY school they encourage community participation, involvement and contribution but they are not high pressure. |
Has anyone had an older kid here? Did it feel more like private preschool or like a daycare because of the toddler rooms? |
School for Friends is an amazing play based preschool. The new director has been there for 2 years now. The previous director was one of the founders and was there for 30+ years before he retired. |
I toured there. The playground is great, but I didn’t think it was a significant improvement over the center we send our daughter to out in the burbs. I just didn’t see the reason behind all the fuss over it. |
I toured there too and can’t remember - so they provide lunch? |
The magic of that school was the former director. They’ve had quite a few teacher turnover as well so verdict is out! |
Yep. It has a daycare vibe now. The staff quality has gone down. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Go away, anti-daycare troll. |
I’m not anti daycare. But the program was excellent under Jim Clay and under the new administration it’s gone downhill. Sorry. Saying it’s a great school doesn’t make it so. You have to hire excellent, degreed teachers with deep experience in early childhood education, anti bias curriculum, project based and play based learning, and have a strong curriculum and lots of professional development. Jim did that. I do not see that anymore. |
So true! |
You can say that without using “daycare vibe” as a so called insult. That’s the problem with what you said. |
Nothing wrong with using ‘daycare vibe’. |
You really don't see the issue with saying it has a "daycare vibe" when arguing staff quality has gone down? |
