| Hello! Was wondering what the before and aftercare situation is at Key elementary? Are there enough spots for everyone who is interested? Thanks! |

Unfortunately no. One of my kids went there for a year and it was impossible to get into aftercare. Apparently there is a very long waiting list. I never understood why they just didn't expand the program, which is run by the PTA. Our current public school uses a professional aftercare provider and there's no limit to how many kids can attend. It is more expensive that Key's, but it's worth it to have access.
For younger kids, there's a former preschool teacher who provides aftercare in her home around the corner from the school, but she only has space for a handful of kids. She hires Key teachers to walk the kids from school to her house. |

There is also an after care program at the Palisades Rec Center & some families used to also use the Jellef after care - but not sure if that bus still runs to go there.
It is very lame that they don't run a better program that can serve all the families with needs or interest. |
| Wow, are school after care programs hard to get in to for most schools in DC? or just certain ones? |
The latter. |
| We were on the waitlist for the entire year one year and never got in. tried again two years later, we got offered a spot in Feb, but declined as we had already made plans. |
NP. Which WOTP schools have limited after care? All of them? I ask because we're planning on moving within DC and we'll need after-care wherever we go. |
Same. We are considering moving WOTP as well, but school aftercare is definitely needed |
What other after-care options are available in the area? Aside from Palisades rec center/Jelleff? Thank you! |
