NCSL division question

I looked up the division my son's U-11 team got placed in, and I am confused (single mom, not a sports fan at all). We are in a division lower than several teams that we beat and are much better than. Is the issue that those teams got easier draws in terms of opponents during the fall? Thank you.

I didn't think they started true seeding of divisions by strength before U12. Could be wrong though.

It starts this season for U11. It looks like they added some new teams from CCL and other leagues, and there are some teams that haven't been placed in a division at all yet. So still a work in progress I would guess.

Where do you see this? I though divisions were posted on Monday.

Clubs --> Scores/Standings Then click your team, click Team History and click on Spring 2020. Must be unofficial.

Our spring 2020 page doesn’t show anything. We are in division 1 and supergroup.

Yes, it's incomplete and not final.

I have noticed that in the past. I think it is hard to get these things right but NCSL tries. Sometimes there are very logical reasons (those teams with worse records may have had harder schedules/played stronger opponents). Sometimes there are iffy reasons (historically that club's first team is strong so the team gets placed in Division 1 even though it's a fairly weak year). Sometimes it is so inexplicable that I wonder if the coach/club lobbied for a higher placement.

In any case, NCSL invites teams to give their opinion on placement so if it isn't official yet you could still make a difference. Talk to the coach/manager.

And worst case scenario: you are placed in a division that is far too low. The kids will have a fun season of blowouts and then be promoted as many as three divisions for the fall.

It‘s U11. Aren’t they still doing lettered divisions?

How does NCSL do the divisions at U11? Our team seems like they are in way over their heads.

Why is there an 08 Olympiacos team in the U11 D3 bracket?

NCSL looks at how U11 teams performs in the Fall Season then place them in divisions in the Spring Season. I believe they obtain inputs from the clubs/teams to make sure the division allocations make sense.

Probably a typo. That is the 09 Team.

Either that, or I have to go finding which Division the 09 team is playing!!!!!

Having been part of this drill, the club/coach/manager provides input on most occasions as to where their team should be placed. Some coaches shoot high and some shoot low and want easy tournament games. You might start by asking your coach the question.
