If anyone has been on a fairly strict low carb/Keto type diet and you've gone off of it while on vacation (pasta, ice cream, tropical fruity cocktails), how much weight did you gain?
I gained 5 pounds initially but a lot of that was bloat. Came out to be about 2 pounds in the end.
Your body composition will be identical, but you will weigh 5ish lbs more. This is because when you eat carbs, your can store ~2000 calories in the form of glycogen, which is a sugar polymer that also is hydrated with a lot of water. If your glycogen is depleted, you automatically weigh 5ish lbs less, but it is all water weight. It's also not considered great for your hormonal profile to be chronically depleted in glycogen, and there's some evidence that very low carb diets (like keto) are not the greatest for some women and exacerbate issues like PMS, menstrual irregularity, and thyroid function.
You might have bad breath. Be tired. Headachey for a a couple of days.
the weight you gain will mostly be water weight and bloat. Just get back on track when yo return and it will go away quickly.
Happiness?
For me my body shape changes even if my weight stays the same. More belly and back fat.
Everyone gains weight on vacation. This is actually living life. Go, enjoy all the umbrella drinks, come home and get back to it when you return!
Surprisingly I lost weight even though I ate carbs, wine, carbs, and more wine on my vacation in Italy. We walked everywhere and ran and/or hiked a few days as well. Maybe that was it? Or I lost muscle, but it was only ten days, so probably not that.
