We have a 5 year old who is struggling with sleep for the past year. She can't fall asleep on her own and won't stay asleep. She wakes by midnight looking for us and can't settle until she falls asleep next to either mom or dad. She can't self soothe and can't be reasoned with. She is not bribable either. We have tried almost everything and now may need some additional help.
Any recommendations on whether to try a sleep specialist or behavioral therapist and any recommendations on who to try? Anyone else have experience - and success with this? |
When she sleeps with you, does she stay asleep? If so, you need a behavioral therapist. |
Yes, stays asleep once with us. Do you have someone you would recommend? |
The first thing I would do would be to attend a PEP class or Dr. Shapiro's parenting journey seminar. |
Is this new behavior or has she always needed someone with her to fall asleep? |
She has always needed someone to fall asleep but she used to stay sleep through night on her own. However, for the past year she has been waking during the middle of the night and wont stay asleep on own |
