| Hi, I am looking for more information about the SS Spanish Immersion program. Is there a separate lottery entry for this program? I just see one for SS? Thanks |
| No separate lottery. |
| Internal waiting list that they only tell you about if they feel like it. |
| At the open house last year I was told there’s an “internal” lottery and was given no further detail about it. |
|
Keep looking...
|
| It's an internal lottery. My kid was in it last year- was not a good experience. I'd look up past posts about SSMA. I thought spanish immersion was a pro, but the lac of concern and support from admin trickles down to the classroom and I'm not sure how much spanish or montessori my kid actually got. There was a lot of turnover in teachers in the classroom and many times the class had to be moved due to poor building maintenance. Would not recommend. |
How does the lottery work, logistically? |
|
You tell them you’re interested and they (supposedly) draw names. It is a very loose process.
Do not choose SSMA for that reason. |
We added SSMA post lottery last year and when I called to discuss the Spanish lottery with them, they pretty much assured me they could make it happen if I accepted the spot. We did not, so who knows what would have happened, but that gives you a sense of how the process “works” |
| Not DC Charter, but Waterfront Academy is both Spanish and MOntessori (http://www.waterfrontacademy.org) |
| This internal lottery is BS and someone should file a complaint with the PCSB. |
I think running a dual language is not permitted under their charter at all. |
They probably say they are piloting the program to get around the charter issue. |
They do. |
