wellness spa getaway

I have been wanting to plan this for a while, to go away with DH for a couple of days without the kids somewhere close. Can you recommend a really good upscale spa getaway that is within a few hours driving distance? Just looking for a beautiful resort or spa-like place, adult-oriented, with great spa (this is a must!) or spa-centered and food. It would be nice if there are many options in addition to traditional spa treatments such as detox treatments, yoga classes, cooking classes, etc. I feel like there may be a place like this around here. btw, we are local to DC but not American so it is challenging to get away somewhere without knowing what is out there. Thank you!

Try spafinder.com to give you some suggestions. I plugged in "getaway spa" and "yoga" and "detox" on the criteria selection and got 9 spas, some of which are in NY (a bit more than 3 hours, though). But if you play with the search functions you may find some options to you that are closer -- just limit your search to MD/VA/NJ.

Try the Inn at Perry Cabin in Easton. Its lovely there and they have a spa.

ok this is not local, but it most closely fits what you are looking for: canyon ranch. there are a couple of locations. funny enough, they were supposed to open a location in bethesda but it fell through with the economy. (the other locations are in more "relaxing" locales)

but they definitely focus on the holistic wellness including food, fitness, relaxation, etc more than other places. it costs a pretty penny as well.

op here: thanks for the suggestions. yes something like Canyon Ranch or Chopra center (closest in NYC) would be wonderful. I cannot believe there is nothing like this around here within 2 hour drive (longer drive defeats the whole purpose of relaxing 8)
