Amaryllis Bulbs - What to do with them?

Anonymous
Someone recently gave me some amaryllis bulbs. They have big green leaves growing from them, but have already bloomed. What do I do with them now? I have been googling, but still am a bit confused.

I'm an experienced plant/gardener. What you're supposed to do is keep them growing all through summer then stop watering say September and once dried, put in cool dark
place. They need a dormant period of say 3 months. Then you water them & put them back into light. I've done this for probably a dozen amaryllis and maybe twice have I ever gotten rebloom and even then-small and disappointing. Now I just toss them.

The leaves will recharge the bulb over the summer. You may want to add one or two tablespoon of fertilizer like 10-10-10.

Just compost them and start again next year.

Do you take the bulb out at that point? or keep the entire pot in cool dark place?

I get really good results with reblooming by planting it outdoors for the summer only, keeping it indoors during other times.
