Coffee for 15 year old

Anonymous
Is it okay to give my DS coffee in the morning. He does get about 6 to 7 hours of sleep during the week due to his school work load and that makes him tired during the day. Grades are fine and Please don’t tell me I should switch him schools for he loves the competitive high school that he is in. TIA

He should get more sleep and a 15 year old drinking coffee because they're not sleeping enough is sad.

That said, there's nothing at all wrong with a 15 year old drinking a cup of coffee a day from a health perspective (different than a non-enough-sleep perspective)

I agree with Pps that drinking a cup of coffee isn't a problem for a 15 yo, but that lack of sleep is a problem for everybody.

I've had 2 magnet students (now in college) and was myself one many years ago. I completely understand the motivation which leads kids to push their limits. Unfortunately, sometimes kids push themselves to far finding those limits before they learn how to balance. You can talk to them about making choices and letting some opportunities go. (One child I finally talked into taking a study hall their senior year and it made a big difference.) However, ultimately, the actual balancing is up to them.

I would suggest that while you support your son (sometimes with coffee) with his struggles, if you sense he's pushed his limits once he's started driving, don't let him drive exhausted.

I love coffee! I was introduced to coffee when I was ten years old.

To the parents that are trying to judge OP, you are delusional if you think your teen sleeps more than 7 hours every night. Stay woke!

It is a myth that coffee stunts growth.

Many of my first graders drink coffee (most with milk and/or sugar). It is cultural for them.

Boys stop growing at 22 and that’s a myth that coffee stunts growth.
