vacation with a 4 y/o - kids clubs?

Anonymous
Hi we're looking to get away for a week anytime from may - september,

While love the beach a great pool and nice surroundings are great too, warm weather, but most importantly we want to find a place that has access to other children - our DD gets bored with just me and dad! A resort with a kids club/day program might work. Nice accommodations, good food, all within a few hour flight from the DC --

We'd appreciate any suggestions!! Thank you!!

Club Med is fantastic. We love the Club Med in Port St. Lucie (called Sandpiper), but the rooms admittedly are in serious need of an overhaul. Read the reviews on Traveladvisor and you'll get the feel for it. We don't mind the rooms at all because we are out enjoying all the activities and spend very little time in the room. The food is unbelievable. Before every trip there, I also think I have built the food up in my mind, but it also exceeds my expectations. And kids club - oh, how I love thee! Sandpiper is about a 2 hr flight from DC, and then a 1 hr drive from West Palm to the resort.

There's also Club Med Punta Cana in the DR. It is a bit longer flight, but the resort is close to the airport, so total travel time comparing direct flights probably is not much more than Sandpiper if you factor in renting a car* to drive to Sandpiper, which would be unnecessary for Punta Cana. Punta Cana was renovated within the last few years and I hear the rooms are terrific.

* Sandpiper will do airport transfer so you don't have to rent a car, but the transfer cost about the same to rent a car because car rentals are extremely cheap in West Palm for some reason. For that reason, we also rent a car so that we have the flexibility if we won't to go someone. Only one time did we actually leave the property, and that was when we had a young child and went to Target for diapers. All the airport car rental places at West Palm are offsite so all that takes a bit of time.
