Arlington Tournament Seeding-Rant

Anonymous
I know, I know...all tournaments seed the teams so that the hosts will do well.
With that said, in our club's age group, our top two teams are at another tournament, and our 3rd, 4th, and 5th teams are competing.
Arlington put our 3rd team in the top bracket playing against Arlington's 1st, our 4th team in the 2nd bracket playing their 2nd, etc.
Really frustrating going to a tournament knowing you have no change to win.
Rant over.

LOL. Don't you feel a little silly paying for travel soccer for your child to be on your clubs 3rd, 4th, or 5th team (in one age group!). Are there any kids left in the rec program ?

When a club has five teams, do you even try out or just sign up and pay for the bottom one?

And don't you feel silly trying to hijack a thread?

I'd assume the OP is talking about BSC...they're the only team other than Arlington with that many people.
From what I've seen, depending on the year of course, the 3rd teams tend to be around the same as many smaller teams 1st teams, but yeah, for the 5th and 6th teams it's pretty much expensive rec at that point.
And Arlington tends to play them pretty evenly, so I can see why the OP is annoyed.

If its 08 boys, then Blue is playing Arlington's third team - the red team. The top two teams are, ahem, DA1 and DA2, despite the absence of any DA at the U12 level for boys. Loudoun is going through the same thing.

I think Alexandria also has 5 or 6 teams per age group. How big are the rec programs to have so many kids make travel teams?

Is that the same for the 09s?
Bethesda did the same thing a few years back at all the younger age groups, having Pre-Academy 1 and Pre-Academy 2 as their top teams, and Blue, which used to be their best, as their 3rd team.
I wish all the clubs could just standardize, and stop with this silliness.

That makes no sense. You're telling me that the top two teams of 08s are skipping their own tournament?

DP. Yes. The two pre-DA teams are not playing in the tournament. The first bracket has their red team which prior to pre DA was the 2nd team/white, possibly 3rd, because I am not sure how many outside players came in for pre DA.

Different age group, but a little wacky for us too. I am not sure why we dropped 2 brackets when we were in the semi-finals last year and beat many clubs first teams, yet are placed with their lower teams this year.

I think it's hard to gauge where to place teams with so many different leagues these days and so many teams changing names or adding pre-DA, etc. It's made it much more challenging for tournament directors to get it right.

They under support and kill off the rec programs so everyone has to go travel. So, the rec programs are small after travel starts. Travel teams make the money.

They aren’t playing in ASIST.

It's Bethesda's fault for having a Gold team only in U11, which probably confuses the hell out of everyone.
