| Does anyone know if the following schools offer art, STEM, and music - even if only once a week? Currently wondering about Tyler, Two Rivers 4th, and J.O. Wilson. Also, do any parents with children there know how much outdoor time is given each day at those three schools? Many thanks! |

OP, it is easy to figure this out at open houses or by emailing the school. Ask them whether they have blocks for art, music, STEM (I would focus on science since everywhere emphasizes math). If they tell you social studies or science is integrated into the ELE curriculum, then that means they don't designate time for it. Outdoor time is recess, which is 30 minutes for DCPS and depends on weather. Our school has the Pre-K kids walking around the neighborhood during class time, but I can't imagine elementary kids are doing that.
(Have you seen the outdoor space at TR4? It's really not great, from a space and traffic and construction pollution perspective.) |

Parent of PK4 kid at JO Wilson -
Kids have art, music, Spanish once a week, as well as PE twice a week. Daily 45-minute recess is typically outdoors (weather-permitting). If weather is bad, they have indoor recess in various spaces (commons/multipurpose room, interior hallways). In ECE they follow the creative curriculum and incorporate STEM concepts (counting, nature/outside environment, etc.) in their themed studies. Hope this helps! |
