Tell me what you know about Asheville NC

We are moving there. Anyone lived there before?

I've never been, so this isn't really a helpful response, but my DH absolutely LOVES it there. He would move there in a heartbeat if there were jobs for us. And I've heard great things from others as well.

lovely mountain setting. Fairly "artsy" for a town of its size.

It's my sister's dream city--she hopes to move there with her family within a few years.

It's beautiful! I'd love to live there. It is artsy.

I live in Greenville, SC which is just across the NC/SC border and I visited and did some work in Asheville numerous times.

Asheville itself is a beautiful city. It is a very liberal (not saying this is good or bad) minded city with a vibrant art and music scene.

There is a lot of good food and things to do. We would go to the Biltmore at least once a year for concerts and or/a tour.

Be prepared for some snow and wintery weather.

Good luck.

One of my best friends from DC moved there and LOVES it. Within no time, she had lots of wonderful friends and a great community. Good luck. From what she says, it sounds fantastic.

It has one the fanciest McDonalds in the world. The foods still the same but the floors are marble, there is a player baby grand piano, really nice bathrooms and a fireplace in the center.

It's a beautiful area and there is lots to do. I haven't spent much time there but it's in the middle of a rock hound's dream.

OP here-
Thanks we are absolutely thrilled. Just seeing if anyone lived there or lives there. Can't wait!
Do you think there is more of a winter there than DC?
Anonymous
I went there for a wedding a couple of years ago and fell in love with the town. A really nice toy store and antique shops downtown, too.

Good luck! Do you feel as if you're escaping the rat race?

There is definitely more of a winter in Asheville. Being in the mountains (on average) you will get a lot more snow than here in DC. Summers will be nice.

I made the 22:24 post. Just looked up average snowfall and I was wrong. Appears that DC and Asheville are about the same.

Oh yeah! We but a beautiful home out in the country, but 5 min from stores. I will not miss the crowded stores and traffic. I always felt tense.

I don't remember the name, but there is a fabulous spa at one of the hotels in Ashville.
