Fairfax County School boundary/transfer rules

Anonymous
I've searched and searched the FCPS website but can't find any information that is relevant to our particular situation:

Our DD has been attending the same school for 2 1/2 years. We're moving out of the area this summer, but have already sold our home. We close & move out to temporary housing at the end of February. The housing we've found is *just* outside the boundary for DD's school. Literally across the street from the boundary line.

Do we need to do anything to ensure that she can finish out the school year at her current school? Is there an obligation to advise the school of our move? We're going to be having to deal with enough transition, I don't want her to have to move schools on top of it all.... Has anyone else been in a similar situation or have knowledge of the County's regulations on this?

I did, but none of the information on that applies as we are seeking to STAY in the same school, not move to a new one.

You must advise the school of your move. Since you are finishing out the year and leaving FCPS for 2010-11 I assume they will let you stay. But you need to inform. I have heard of people who moved, continued to send, school found out, and the child was sent to the in-boundary school for the new address. Ugly situation and best to avoid.
