Weird letter from school

I recently received a letter from a school I’m no longer in contact with. The letter said that this communication was being sent to all members of the school community but was NOT the result of any incident at the school, but just sent as a general communication and outreach to state that all sexual misconduct and abuse is not and was never acceptable at the school. They again reiterated that this letter was being sent not because of any incident happening, but because the school values communication and transparency and wants to invite conversation in light of the school being a progressive community. This was sent after the scandal with the doctor abusing gymnasts and a couple of other current events in the national media.
Would you be concerned as a parent, alumnus, staff member, or donor? Is this a strange letter for a school to send out if nothing happened? I almost want to call the school and demand to know what is going on but I no longer have children there. |

The scandal with the doctor abusing the gymnasts was a couple years ago. So, you got a letter a few years ago and now you’re posting? |

| Maybe I’m misremembering which news items it was. I thought the gymnast abuse was in the news in the last year or two. That’s was just the one I remembered, I think there was some other new items I can’t remember now. I received the letter last year. |

We had an incident where I used to work. A customer there left a backpack in the restroom and it had a camera in it. (Trying to catch kids using the restroom ugh) This is the type of place where there are lots of kids wearing swimsuit type attire. The backpack was found and turned into the office before it could catch anyone using the restroom, but the office person noticed the weird hole with camera and called police immediately. Once charges were filed the community was notified.
In the statement issued it said that this adult had kids in the MCPS school system and during parties at the adult's house the students may have been filmed. They eventually arrested him but this whole process of notification can take a while. I think it was 6 months before they published his name. They arrested him in 2018. My money is that it's related. |
