Has anyone had experience with the Summer Youth Courses/Camps at the Community College? Did you find that it was helpful or a waste of time?
My 6th grader is at a TAG center doing accelerated math and is managing Cs. We would like to get them some tutoring or a camp over the summer to see if that would help get ready for 7th grade. https://www.pgcc.edu/media/wwwpgccedu/content-assets/programs-and-courses/academic-divisions/professional-studies-and-community-education/youth-programs/summer-youth-program/Youth-Schedule-2020-with-online-registration-instructions.pdf |
| Yes, my daughter has done it for the past 3 years (6th grade now) and my son went last year (3rd grade now). They like it and found it helpful to keep them refreshed. The don't teach new things but rather test the kids, see where they fall and place them in the appropriate grade level. From there they help them. One year the teacher told my daughter's class that their multiplication was not that great so she spent a lot of time getting them up to parr. They have also liked a majority of the afternoon sessions. I just wish they had some outdoor options but we supplement swimming and stuff that like that. |
I will add they may add new concepts but its not a full session where your child will learn a bunch of 7th grade concepts. Just enough to keep their minds fresh. |
Thank you! |
