commuting shoes for winter

Anonymous
i don't know if this belongs is fashion b/c it may not be that fashionable... I have a walk to the metro and can't handle the walk in my heels every day. So I would like some warm slip on boots that i can wear with skirts and pants (I change shoes when I get to the office).
So I"m thinking of buyng a pair of Uggs but don't know if they are worth it. What do you think? If so, tall ones or mid-calf? Any other ideas that work for you?

This is what the Capitol Hill Style blog says about winter/wet weather boots:

Well, for rainy/snowy days, I recommend Wellies and fluffy fleece socks. For dry, chilly days, I suggest a casual, flat, leather tall boot with a fluffy fleece sock.

You are not Nanook of the North, and this is not Greenland. This is the United States Capitol, and only 17-year-old tourists are allowed to wear Uggs here.

My trouble with pants and winter boots is that my pants are hemmed for 2" heels, which my winter boots do not have.

There are a lot of much less expensive, lined suede boots that are much more subtle than Uggs out there. I wear a beige pair that have a thick, slip resistent sole with my pant leg over them and they are very unobtrusive. This may not be Greenland, but I do appreciat the flurry lining on these cold days. If pant length is an issue, look for a pair with a bit of a heel.

This is my problem too except my pants are cut for 3" heels. So annoying but I really love faking my height . I have a pair of clog boots that are close but my pants still drag. Probably I need some kind of wedge situation but I hate wedges and they usually aren't high enough either. argh.

OK. Thanks for the reality check! I've never liked the look of Uggs so I hated to spend so much on them. I thought everyone else must think they are cute since I see so many people wearing them LOL. Plus the comfort aspect was intriguing since I have a hard time finding comfy shoes. I think I've decided to go with a pull on pair of Frye boots instead. Thanks!
