Has anyone bought a car for someone in a different state

Anonymous
I live in MD. My cousin lives in SanFran.

He's a good kid who has had some financial setbacks. Recently, his 150k mile car broke down on the highway and he needs a new car. I told him to find a good used car and I will act as a bank to him instead of financing it with the auto dealer. I am basically going to give him a 0% loan so that he can save money on interest.

Has anyone ever done this? How do you pay the dealer from out of state? I was hoping that I could use my credit card to pay for the car (guessing that it will be about $10k). Would a dealer even allow this with the credit card fees? If the dealer doesn't accept credit card, how do you make payment out of state?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions.

Maybe use a cashiers check?

You wire the money, or just fedex a check. Most will not take the entire purchase by credit card because of fees and/or the ability to dispute the charge

Sounds like you cannot afford it if you cannot pay cash. Most car dealerships will not put that much on a credit card.

Most dealerships have a $2,500 or $5k limit on credit card. Pay by wire or send a cashier's check.

I was the bank for my DS's first new car out of state. I wired the money to his bank. He got a cashier's check from his bank for the dealer.

This is correct. Ask the dealership directly

Sounds like you have poor reader comprehension skills.
