I know a lot of people love them and they are recommended by DC birth doulas, but I found the doulas a bit hit or miss and the front office/scheduling sometimes frustrating.
For postpartum doula I was only given one option to interview and as a result ended up with someone I only felt ok about. I felt like she sold herself as having a lot of high-level expertise with things like breastfeeding and ultimately I just didn’t get $40/hour worth of value out of working with her. It felt like a lot to pay for essentially an extra pair of hands and some babycare tips. She was also frequently late and had much less availability than I was led to believe. I was induced so was pretty clear on dates I wanted sessions and she was booked up for many of those despite our advanced notice. I ultimately hired a part time nanny instead for half the hourly rate. I had a better experience with a doula who did overnights for us. But those were also pretty straightforward - just managing feedings and diaper changes. |
