Embryo donation legal fees (DC)

Anonymous
We have a couple of embryos we are considering donating via Shady Grove/Embryo Options. We are located in DC. Can anyone who has done this advise on how to handle the legal aspect?

All we really want to do is share what was left over from a very costly (and successful) journey on our part and give someone else a less expensive shot at having a child.

I don't particularly want to take on the cost of a reproductive attorney, but I also want to do it correctly.

That's really cool that you are willing to donate your embryos if this works out. What was your outcome with children?

Yes - very cool to be willing to donate. When I checked with Shady Grove about donor embryo six months or so ago they told me they didn’t have any embryos from Caucasian donors at that time. Obviously I don’t know your race but seems like there currently aren’t many option for those looking for donor embryos. I remember the cost at SGF for a donor embryo included legal fees so I’m guessing the legal fees are covered by the donee. I don’t know how the storage fees work and whether you’d get reimbursed for some of that.

What is the requirement for donating embryos? I’d like to donate when it’s relevant and as we are jewish I’d imagine there’s demand, but one of us is a tay Sachs carrier so I don’t know if that means we’re ineligible. Since it’s only one of us there is no risk of the child having it but there is a risk they’d be a carrier.
