If you receive financial aid, are you still expected to give a donation?

If so, how much?

Yes. Start low, so you can increase over time.

for many schools it is more about participation so a class can say 95% or 100% of families in Kindergarten gave to the Annual Fund.... this helps when the school tries to get grants or donations from past families...if you give early you are not pursued so less pressure you would show up on the list as 'already given' say if a fellow parent is helping solicit...

I receive financial aid for my DC, and yes I supported the schools annual fund. It was truly a stretch for me, but I mananged to give a few hundred. I was able to spread the payments out over a length of time which helped. I would suggest that everyone supports their school even if it is a small amount.

I would say that especially if you are receiving FA, you should be expected to give a donation.

At our school, even the teachers are expected to contribute. I doubt they are giving more than $100. I've worked for the fund committee, and some parents give $25 and thats fine. Participation is the important thing. The fund people know who to ask for a lot and who to ask just for participation. Sometimes they are suprised though - some people give lots more than expected and some who seem to have a lot of money with multiple non-FA kids in the school just don't contibute much at all.

Wow that just seems crazy to me. If you get FA then you shouldn't have money to donate.

I agree w/ the PP but even if I receive nearly 100% of the tuition in FA, I could still manage say $50 or so.

Just curious, how do they know who should be able to give a lot?

Historical participation. First year parents are always wild cards.
