REF: Is it true that If I take alcohol, I cant concieve?

I mix Vodka &Orange juice during social gatherings(twice/week) with my DH.
I have been married for 6 months now and am also trying to concieve but a friend recently warned me to stop or I wont concieve is this true? Please advice |

| Drinking alcohol will not prevent conception. However, because of the impact that alcohol and other drugs can have on fetal development, some advocate abstaining from alcohol even during the time when you are trying to conceive so that you aren't inadvertently drinking between the time of conception and learning that you are pregnant. |

This makes sense, especially if you are trying. Once you're pregnant, it's preferable not to spend the 9 months (or longer, even after the baby is born) wondering if the vodka had any impact on the development of the baby's brain. The March of Dimes, the Surgeon General, etc., all advise that women seeking to become pregnant stop drinking. |

drink up lady until you get that positive! i did! 
i did ivf, so i actually cut back w/ the alcohol during stimming, but had a drink the day before and a cigarette the day of my transfer...have abstained w/ both since.... good luck! |

Totally agree because the same thing happened to me.Life is too short so enjoy, drink and be merry just not too much though. Best wishes |

| I abstained for the 1.5 years it took me to get pregnant, so I can't say that it really helped (or maybe it did). But I am so glad I didn't have any alcohol during this time...if for any reason there were any issues ith my baby, I'd never forgive myself. Even though there isn't a whole lot of conclusive research out there on the effects of alcohol, isn't it better to be safe than sorry? |

Ah, but did you drink after the transfer? If not, you stopped before you got the positive reading. |

oooh good point!! you're right, no i didn't! my mistake- i didn't have any drinks/cigs during my 2ww. good eye! still though i guess my point was i didn't stop drinking while ttc for 2 years. even other 2ww i drank and had a few cigarettes. this time i didn't. and i am glad b/c damn those cigarettes are so bad but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. so i'll say keep drinking until you....ovulate & get busy....transfer....iui...whatever the case may be.

by the looks of it, the posters didn't have a problem while ttc or didn't stop. but you should ask your doctor and follow whatever he/she says....not an anonymous board.
