Do you:
- buy a bigger pair so your self esteem doesn’t plummet even farther or - buckle down and fight to lose those 10 holiday pounds, sucking it up & wearing the too-tight / probably unflattering jeans until they once again zip and button with ease |
| I quit drinking wine |
| OP here. I should add...money is tight, really really tight. Which has added to high stress, holiday overeating, less exercise, etc. Buying new jeans is not something I’m excited about spending money on, especially since I have several expensive pairs in my former size just hanging in my closet. |
| I buy new jeans. Can't stand tight clothes and not a huge fan of jeans. So hard to find the right fit. |
Yeah. I should probably do that, too! |
OP here. I work in tech so denim is pretty much our uniform. If you dress up, people think you’re headed out for an interview during lunch! |
| New jeans. Too-tight clothes look so much worse than being overweight in clothes that fit. |
| Just buy new jeans. Go to a consignment shop, Old Navy, or somewhere and not spend a lot of cash. Then worry about the weight when things calm down. |
|
Don't speak to me of fat clothes that are too tight. I am NOT buying the next size up. I will do whatever it takes to make them loose again. Grrrr. |
| Join your local buy nothing group and ask if anyone has jeans in the size you need. |
| Cut out the carbs and they will fit again in no time! You can do it! |

I put on the yoga pants and work off the calories.
But if you need to wear actual pants, head to the thrift shop for a few temporary fixes that you will be happy to re-donate in a few months. |
This sounds like a pretty specific-to-this-situation circumstance, so what ppl normally do isn't particularly relevant. I think you need to assess how temporary this weight gain really is and how difficult it would be for you to fit back into your fat jeans. In general, wearing too tight clothing for extended periods of time is worse for encouraging weight loss than wearing clothes that flatter you is...but if this is truly a rare one-off, you might be able to get back into your jeans quickly. Also, even though money is tight, remember that places like Old Navy frequently have sales that make their jeans quite low cost. If you are used to spending a lot more on jeans, you might be able to find something that works for you there but doesn't hurt as much financially. |
This. Given the nice weather, I’m planning to do 3x/week walk/slow runs. Weight should come off in no time. |
| I definitely stop eating and cut down on carbs. I refuse to buy bigger clothes. Even postpartum I only bought crummy clothes from old navy and wouldn’t buy myself nice clothes. I said that big size was just temporary. It’s always worked for me. |
