Found a 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport with 24k miles for 15k. Looks like it use to be a rental. It has been at the dealer since Sept.

What would you offer? It’s the color I want. First time buying a car (currently don’t own a car). I live in DC, but like to hike and camp. I need a car for a new job.

Agree with first two PPs. Hassan transmissions aren’t trash. Be prepared for it to be worth $3k in 4 years.

What would you recommend then? I want something small (live in DC and park on the street). I don’t want to spend a lot. I want it to be okay looking. Most concerned with getting from point A to point B.

Corrolla Hatch is also a good choice. Spunky looking, spacious, reliable, affordable.

Something with a manual transmission.

Because every CVT automatic out there is absolute junk. Expensive junk. And carmakers are all going to CVTs.

My advice? Buy a Honda or Toyota with a 5 speed manual. That's about the only new car I'd buy. If not, something 2000-vintage with the older style automatic.
