Go-go to be the official music of DC? Why?? Nobody cares or listens to go-go anymore. Why would they even consider proposing something so wasteful as this?

DC is changing, and whether people like it or not, it’s time to let the past die.

Do you live in DC, OP? You sound very sheltered if you don’t think anyone listens to go go anymore. It’s part of our cultural fabric. I am not a native Washingtonian but have lived here for 25 years and my friends who are native Washingtonians listen to go go all the time. It’s basically all that’s played at our neighborhood cookouts.

I think it’s great to recognize it as our official music- it’s certainly been unofficial for a very long time.

OP, you do know that go-go has nothing to do with the boots or the 80s band, right? It’s Chuck Brown and Rare Essence and Trouble Funk (I know, I’m dating myself) and all the sidewalk drummers all over downtown. It’s the home-grown heartbeat of DC.

Oh c'mon, how many more go-go records need to be sold to make that tiny cost up in sales and income taxes? If even a couple tourists decide to visit here instead of somewhere else and their curiosity about go-go is what puts them over the edge, we've made money.

Drawing attention to local culture and local cultural history is simply good business practice.

Long term DC resident here and I think go go music is terrible.
