Polyps and IVF

Anonymous
I had a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy last year, and then DH and I moved onto IVF, doing two back-to-back cycles of egg retrieval. First one went fine, no issues. In the second one, at my first monitoring appointment, the doctor said she believed she saw a polyp—which was then noted at every monitoring appointment. They went ahead with the retrieval, and I’m scheduled for a saline sono next week to confirm the polyp. I’m so confused, though. Could a polyp really have grown so fast that they wouldn’t see it at all in any of my diagnostic tests or first IVF, and then suddenly see it in January? Could the IVF hormones have caused it to grow? Is it possible it was there the whole time, possibly causing my original miscarriages?

I’d love any knowledge or personal experiences.

Not entirely the same but after my first egg retrieval, I wound up having a small ovarian cyst. My doctor found it on ultrasound during my follow up appointment. He said it was common after retrieval, and would likely go away on its own, but it did cause me to have to cancel my fresh transfer. The cyst was gone by the time I went in for my first FET two months later. Fingers crossed for you it doesn’t look serious next week. I know a removal would put you on hold for a few months before being able to transfer. Good luck.

Alas, the saline sono confirmed a polyp. Surgery next month. What a kick in the teeth.

Yes, that happened to me as well. I had a surgery to remove it. Very minor surgery.

Be glad they found it - it could have been in the early stages last year & have been a factor in the miscarriage. The surgery will hardly delay things and will give you the best odds. I had similar except it was fibroids. There’s no delay after minimally invasion surgery, and I did a fresh cycle immediately after removal and was successfully. Good luck
