Maine sleepaway camp

Any recommendations for sleepaway camps in northeast for an 11yo girl ? Looking for nature/hiking/climbing focus but not super rustic. Any experience with Arcadia, Wyonegonic, or Chewonki ?

Does it have to be in Maine? What about the Adirondacks? Amazing camps up there. I grew up going to a camp called Forest Lake Camp near Warrensburg, NY. Amazing brother sister camp, still my favorite place on earth. I went there from about 7 until becoming a counselor. Sounds like what you are looking for- not too rustic (nice cabins with bathrooms) but not fancy either.

A few posters on another thread recommended Becket (boys) and Chimney Corners (girls) in the Berkshires.

I’m very curious about Kippewa. What are the girls like? Are the girls down to earth? And would a non-Jewish girl fit in?

this thread is so old, but for anyone looking at this in 2025, Camp Arcadia is phenomenal for girls. I went there as a teen and was a counselor for many years and this was my daughter's 4th summer. Phenomenal trips program and really well-developed activity program. Kind, caring counselors and great, supportive community. It's been around for over 100 years in the same family - they are doing something right!
